Is E1510 Halal?
E1510 is ethanol, the alcohol in alcoholic drinks. Added to food as an ingredient or preservative, it is treated as haram: Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi and Hanbali scholars do not allow it, while Jafari scholars allow a non-intoxicating amount that is not from wine. As a solvent inside a flavouring, such as vanilla extract, only a tiny trace remains, which most scholars allow.
Guidance for Muslims
E1510 is not permissible for Muslims. This additive may be derived from pork or other non-halal animal sources. Look for products with halal certification.
